Bismuth Oxychloride as an Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst for Aldol Condensation Reaction between Aldehydes and Ketones

The aldol reaction is a cornerstone of modern synthetic organic chemistry in which the β-hydroxyketone was formed by an enol or enolate and carbonyl compound. Benzalacetone one fundamental building blocks benzalacetone synthase structure that play important role for construction variety medicinally crucial phenylbutanoids, such as anti-inflammatory glucoside lindleyin rhubarb gingerol. non-transition metal material attracted much attention from research groups on world, potential catalyst BiOCl due to its remarkably chemical physical properties relative stability, resistance air moisture, low toxicity. synthesized solvothermal method. features were defined analytic methods X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scaning Electron Microscope (SEM), Nitrogen Adsorption-Desorption Isotherms. successfully utilized condensation benzaldehyde acetone. performed mild condition with presence 10 mol% 2 equivalent Cs2CO3 base without by-product very short times good yields. product obtained around 85% yield at 120 °C 24 h. after recovered reused many significant reducing catalytic activity.
